our Services

We provide specialist rail infrastructure advice and guidance across all stages of the railway infrastructure project lifecycle.

  • Rail infrastructure strategy

Have an idea for a new railway line? Starting with collaborative concept development, we will assess the idea via a feasibility study to settle on one or more optimal concepts. We then develop a business case around these options allowing the funding process to begin.

To give you the best outcome we will use a range of innovative technology products, including our rapid 3D-visualisation technology which allows us to select optimal alignment solutions and construction methodologies.

  • Operational planning and modelling

Once a business case has been made, we can help you undertake operational modelling (timetables and schedules and routes and frequency) to define how they interact with other transport systems (trams, buses).

We will then deliver a service plan that will help you understand, patronage, capacity and future revenue projections. This will determine the overall viability of the project.

  • Initial construction planning

We can assist with initial construction planning and staging. This includes developing work methodologies and likely staging plans. We will help put together a sequence of works, including a constructability assessment and work out the sequence of construction phases that will provide an optimised, logical and efficient construction outcome that minimises impact to the travelling public.

This process allows project durations to be defined and will help you understand the impact of any required rail or road shutdowns and their duration. At this point the project planning is handed over to the contractors to build.

  • Financial modelling

Based on the agreed approach and scope of work, we will model detailed financial projections that address all options under consideration that includes staging, methodology, risk and opportunity.

The financial modelling will be multi-dimensional to take into account project financing, and ongoing operations and maintenance costs over the life of the project.

  • Rail asset management

Once the asset has been put into service, we can help develop an asset maintenance and renewals plan that will optimise the life of the asset and maximise your investment.

This will include innovative maintenance techniques and optimal intervention points (we take a risk-adjusted approach as to when to intervene).

  • Railway technology applications

Embracing and leveraging the latest technologies can provide data and information that will help improve your railway operation planning and asset management decisions. We call this Intelligent Transport Solutions for Railways. Examples include:

    Critical services:
Signals and automatic braking, rail traffic management systems, heat and harmonics detection with early intervention.

    Non-critical services
Passenger information systems and display of the passenger compartments, speed limit warnings, remote diagnosis of train equipment faults.

At the earliest stages of a project, we can also deploy a range of technologies that will help you inform route selection and constructability.
